Dingsong held its 2018 legal capital summit in Shenzhen, China.
Participants discussed the current status of legal capital in China and its future. Data collected by the Supreme People’s Court of China shows that the number of new cases increased rapidly from 2005 to 2017. In 2018, this growth trend continued. In the first six months, the number of cases continued to grow, surpassing 12 million. And the amount of money in dispute was more than RMB 4 trillion (USD 570 billion).
The founder and chairman of Dingsong, Zhang Zhi, noted that third-party funding has been developing very rapidly in the field of dispute resolution: “On the one hand, for litigants who lack funds, third party funding enables them to seek legal redress. On the other hand, for litigants who do not lack funds, third party funding serves to reduce their personal risk. Tremendous market demand has rapidly turned third-party funding into a major industry."
